Windows

Stable 1.20.4 builds are hosted on ppsspp.org. The installer, portable ZIP, and ARM64 ZIP all use the same emulator core.

• Use the installer for the simplest setup and Start menu shortcuts on Windows 7 through 11.
• The portable ZIP keeps files next to the executable, which is useful on locked-down PCs or when you want multiple versions side by side.
• Default memstick location: Documents/PPSSPP/memstick.
• Version 1.20.4 no longer requires mfplat.dll unless you use camera or microphone features.
• If Vulkan fails, switch to Direct3D 11 or OpenGL under Settings → Graphics → Backend.

Android

Install from Google Play for automatic updates, or download the direct APK from ppsspp.org. F-Droid is an alternative store build with its own update channel.

• Supported floor is Android 5.0 and newer as of the 1.20 line.
• On Android 11 and newer, create a PSP folder at the storage root when asked, then tap Use this folder.
• Place disc images in PSP/ISO inside the folder you granted.
• Do not install repackaged Gold APKs from unknown sites; they are a common source of malware.

iOS

Most users install from the App Store. Advanced users can sideload the IPA from GitHub releases using a trusted signing tool.

• Start around 2× to 3× PSP resolution on recent Apple chips.
• Gold on iOS is an in-app purchase inside the free app; the separate Gold app was retired.
• Sideloaded IPAs may need re-signing when certificates expire.

Linux

Flathub integrates with your desktop software center and handles updates. The AppImage is portable and runs on most distributions without installing.

• Make the AppImage executable (chmod +x) before the first launch.
• Flatpak sandboxes the app; grant folder access when prompted so PPSSPP can see your game library.
• Default memstick is typically under ~/.local/share/ppsspp or inside the Flatpak data directory.

macOS

Open the DMG and drag PPSSPP to Applications. Gatekeeper may require a right-click then Open on first launch. Updating in place does not wipe your saves.

• Works on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs from the same DMG.
• Default memstick: ~/Documents/PPSSPP/memstick.
• If Metal rendering has issues, try switching the graphics backend in Settings.

VR

The VR build is an APK for compatible Android VR headsets such as Meta Quest 2 or newer and PICO Neo3 or newer. PC VR is not currently supported. Sideload the APK using a trusted tool such as SideQuest.

• Start at 1× to 2× internal resolution until performance is stable.
